You'd like to run your own pub, but you've never run one before. So, like most people in your position, you are probably wondering:


Where do I start?

Here are our suggestions - you may not need to do everything - or maybe not in this order - either way, we've put together what we think is a good path towards running your own pub.

It's simple and straight down the line with no right or wrong answers. It's for getting you thinking about the in's and out's of running a pub.

3. Training workshops
Our workshops have received national recognition and have consistently helped people improve - both their business and their own performance within it.

4. Our Enquiry Form
You'll need to fill one in if you want to apply for a pub with us.

5. We'll ask to meet you
When we have received your application form, we will ask you to come and talk with us about the following:

  • Your experience and skills.
  • Whether running a pub with us is a good choice for you.
  • The pubs we have on offer that would suit you best.
  • The cost of starting a pub business.
  • The terms of our tenancy agreement.
  • Any questions you may have.

If you decide that you want to continue and Landlords we agree that a pub business is right for you, we will do the following:

  • Suggest which pubs you might like to look at and give you detailed information in clear and honest business terms.
  • Give you a copy of our code of practice that explains how we would do business together.
  • Give you a copy of the relevant agreement and quality services and standards manual so that you can see our commitment to each other.
  • Give you our current wholesale price list.
  • Continue to let you know about pubs, which may be suitable for you.

6. Find a suitable pub

When you have found a pub, which you think is right for you, we will arrange for you to:
  • Look at the pub together
  • Meet the Business Development Manager who will be working with you
  • Discuss your business plan and our agreements

7. Finalise Agreements
Once we have found a suitable pub and an appropriate agreement, we will meet again to work through all the questions you will have. We will then be ready to finalise our commitments to each other in the form of our plain english agreements.

Once finalised, we'll get you up and running in your new business as soon as possible.

8. Celebrate!
It's time to open up! Don't forget to stop and congratulate yourself and your supporters for all the hard work invested up to this point. It'll give you a target to aim for, and help you prepare for the next step - running a successful business.
